Glowing Whale

How to make a squidgy whale circuit that glows. No whales were harmed in the making of this creation.

things you will need

Blue and white play dough
1 or 2 blue LEDs
1 x 4AA battery pack (and batteries)
Card
Scissors

Make the body

Roll the blue play dough into a tear shape.
Shape the narrowest end of the tear dough shape into a whale tail.

Add an eye

Use the white play dough to make an eye. Add a pupil with a black pen.

Add the insulator and light

Cut out a small piece of card and place on the whale’s back.
Add a small piece of white dough on top of the card (making sure the white dough doesn’t connect with the blue dough).
Place the long leg of the LED into the whale’s body.
Place the short leg of the LED into the white dough (the whale’s blow hole).

Things to know

The card will prevent a short circuit. You could use any insulator here - plastic, insulating dough, a piece of rubber.

Power it up

Make sure the battery pack is OFF.
Insert the red battery wire into whale tail.
Insert the black battery wire into the white blow hole.

Things to know

Make sure the red battery wire is placed into the whale tail as the LED will only light up when the long leg is connected to the positive (red) end of the battery.
